Tweety Bi has the full and accurate answer to your question. I wish that the elderly and bedridden patients in hospital post-op add, probably one of the most vulnerable. Hospitals and nursing staff are more aware of this complication in the last decades and is the reason why in addition to monitoring patients who are now post-op patients, and patients who have heart attacks and SA, with his legs dangling over the bed, and even walk on the first day.

As survivors of DVT, that's me. At the age of 24 I had a deep venous thrombosis, a pulmonary embolism. I had no symptoms until I had the piston. I was admitted for one week treatment with intravenous heparin, by Oral Med (Coumadin), followed to the hospital. My family doctor and HematArchaeologists felt my condition was the result of the use of oral contraceptives and smoking. BCP pills had a higher estrogen content.

I've been good since.

Since DVT occurs in leg veins, usually the symptoms of swelling in the calf or behind the knee, redness, warmth and affection are. The weakest are immobile. Immobility can, because the effects of disturbances and post-conditions occur, the state. If the patients are still in hospital, had made the routine monitoring of DVT of nurses. If the patient is verbal or nonverbal, but awake, the flexion of the foot used to detect possible maneuvers PST. A positive dorsiflexion shows the need for Doppler ultrasound to confirm or deny.

May-patient complained of pain in the legs when walking. Here, too, requires the same assessment.

Even passengers on long flights are at risk due to the altitude and prolonged arrest and should be givenND foot intervals.

The precautions are on foot, ROM, TED hose, sequential compression routine for evaluation of persons at risk for venous thrombosis.

For people at risk, the preventive treatment (prohylaxis) includes treatment with heparin and Coumadin. Often the injection of heparin therapy administered first and then switched to oral Coumadin, which can also be given through a stomach tube.

Treatment includes bed rest, fibrin, and anticoagulation.
